Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC)
web- and mobile apps

Organisation
Name: International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO)
Location: The Hague, The Netherlands
Project description
INSO was in need of a way to enable their clients (NGOs) to understand the level of their employees safety in high-risk countries. The Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC) is the result, a platform that allows field agents in the high-risk counties to enter safety incidents (e.g. attacks on humanitarian workers), stores the incident data, and enables NGOs to analyse the security data in real-time. CHDC works fully offline, is localised into multiple languages, and is fault tolerant.
Involvement
Austin Weidler (Technical Director) was the lead engineer in developing the CHDC.
Technologies
Java, Angular, SASS, Solr, Kubernetes, CouchDB, Microsoft Azure, SQL Server, Redis.
Impact
In use in over 17 countries and with 1.2 million incidents recorded by dedicated teams in the field, data is later visualised within the system from local response hubs on the ground to global snapshots at the United Nations. This data collection and analysis helps NGOs to increase the level of safety of their humanitarian workers worldwide, to ensure they can continue focusing on making an impact, even in high-risk countries.
